Shroud of Olindor One on One Adventures #6 for play through the Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop

Expeditious Retreat Press announces its sixth title in 1 on 1 Adventures following the award-winning Pleasure Prison of the B'thuvian Demon Whore. 1 on 1 Adventures #6: Shroud of Olindor is designed for 1 GM and 1 player, rogue level 7-9. This module includes 20 adventure-packed pages, forming a ready-made adventure for the smallest gaming group. Although it is designed for a Rogue level 7-9, with some minor scaling, The Shroud of Olindor is suitable for use with a traditional four-player party.

Lord Dragle was set to auction off his most recent discovery, the Shroud of Olindor. The elven relic was certain to make Dragle a wealthy man. Such a pity he had to die. But the plot surrounding Dragle’s death is far more layered than it appears. It is up to the player character to discover the hidden motives and ultimately recover the Shroud of Olindor.

The adventure is a sequel to 1 on 1 Adventures #2: Star of Olindor, although it is easily played as a stand-alone adventure. Don't forget to pick up the follow-up adventure, 1 on 1 Adventures #10: Vengeance of Olindor

Episode 35: Secrets and Lies

RPGNow - Sat, 10/01/2011 - 10:47
Secrets and LiesPublisher: Idle Red Hands

In this episode, we talk about how to best use lying and secrecy in your games.

The secrets of this episode:

Wayne’s d100 joke was originally Lyal’s. It was also originally funny.

Wayne has never seen Goodfellas, and Lyal has never seen Family Guy. This actually won’t seem like much of a secret after you listen to the episode.

Chris initially had a joke where he said the episode was about fantasy. Get it? It was a lie. It’s no secret why this “joke” never made it in.

In this episode, we discuss the Norse pantheon. We also uncover startling parallels between the Aesir and a certain American subculture.

The Crazy GM Presents: Lost Kingdoms Setting

RPGNow - Sat, 10/01/2011 - 09:24
Lost Kingdoms SettingPublisher: The Crazy GM
Once upon a time, adventurers would embark out to explore new places and make a name for them. But this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. It seems that recently all adventures are written the assumption that epic world changing events are required to have a good time. This is NOT one of those settings. This is my attempt to bring back the good old days of adventuring for the sake of adventuring. No plot hooks requiring intricate weaves of politics and social economics. This is about having fun and fun shouldn’t require hours of preparation.Price: $0.00

Quad

RPGNow - Sat, 10/01/2011 - 05:13
QuadPublisher: Avalon Game Company

They say chess takes a day to learn and a lifetime to master.  On the other hand, children have mastered the idea of playing make believe, but it takes a lifetime to learn the rules of TRPGs.

QUAD strives for two goals:  to be fairly simple and simply fair.  The game is designed to be short and simple to learn, with enough possibilities to keep veteran players interested.

The character creation system is designed so you can create a detailed character quickly.  It also strives to create balanced characters: there should be no ways to 'max out' the rules to make a character more powerful than she should be.

One inherent downsiide of simplicity is that realism suffers.  QUAD doesn't claim to recreate real life; it is a game designed to allow action and adventure.  QUAD does make some attempts to maintain realism as a means of game balance.

Space Cases!

RPGNow - Fri, 09/30/2011 - 18:43
Space Cases!Publisher: Skortched Urf' Studios

In the Galaxy Command rulebook, I mentioned that in the spirit of 70s sci-fi, players can re-skin baseline humans as human-like aliens. These re-skinned humans keep the human racial traits, but have the kind of minor physical alterations that a low budget TV show might use to create its aliens. These ‘aliens’ might just be human actors with elf ears glued to them, painted skin or fake pair of antennas added.

Spacecases takes this reskinning concept a few steps farther. You’re not just building a one shot alien race for your campaign, you’re building the bumbling kind of extraterrestrial comic relief that 70s and early 80s TV was known for. Spacecases makes use of tons of random trait charts. The goal of this sourcebook isn’t a freeform humanoid alien creation systemrather you’re building a fun to play sidekick from an alien culture you make up as you go along, and that is played mostly for laughs. The feats, racial abilities and cultural quirks are designed with screw-ball space comedy in mind.

Pathfinder Battles Preview: Goblins on the March!

Paizo - Fri, 09/30/2011 - 17:00

Pathfinder Battles Preview: Goblins on the March!

Friday, September 30, 2011

When we put together the set list for our first major Pathfinder Battles set, Heroes & Monsters, we knew it needed to contain several goblins. Ever since James Jacobs and Wayne Reynolds reimagined these classic monsters in the very first Pathfinder Adventure Path volume, “Burnt Offerings,” these little green-skinned bastards have been sort of unofficial mascots for the Pathfinder brand. They just had to be represented in the set.

The behind-the-scenes images below show the unpainted master sculpts of two of the goblins included in the Heroes & Monsters set. As WizKids’ sculptors pretty much translated our critters directly into three dimensions, we did not require any changes to their look.

The image below shows the goblins in their full-color glory. We asked WizKids to darken the greens a bit on these little guys, so the final production models will come off a little less day-glo than they appear here, but you can get a good sense of how nasty the goblins will look when they come chomping into your life in December!

They be plasticrack, you be food!

Next Week: I have no idea which images we’ll preview next week, but I am confident they will look awesome. Let me know what minis or Pathfinder Battles information you’d like to see, and I’ll do my best to reveal it here in seven days!
